Danping Zou is an Associate Professor in School of Electronic Information and Eletrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before 2013, He was a research fellow in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at National University of Singapore. He graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2003 and received the Ph.D. degree from School of Computer Science at Fudan University 2010. His research mainly focuses on vision-based navigation techniques.

Abstract:

With one or multiple video cameras, visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) is able to estimate the ego motion of the camera itself in unknown environments. It hence provides valuable information about the state of the robot. The performance of visual SLAM is critical to robotic applications. In this talk, I’ll present my research on visual SLAM for both a single robot or multiple freely moving robots. To make visual SLAM more accurate and robust in practical applications, the characteristic about the environment and the kinematics of the robot are fully explored. For multiple freely moving robots, the feature information shared among different agents are fully utilized to improve the performance of pose estimation and mapping. Results will be demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed ideas.
